Team Jumbo-Visma has not been able to get a top result in the Flèche Wallonne. The yellow-black formation was in the front of the peloton before the start of the final of the Walloon hill classic, but could not show themselves.
“We did not have too high expectations for today”, said sports director Grischa Niermann. “Tom Dumoulin indicated quite early on that he was not feeling great, which is not illogical after such a world championship. Jonas and Lennard had the freedom to go for a good result. It was certainly not our best race in terms of results, but we did not expect that in advance.”
Niermann is looking forward to Liège-Bastogne-Liège, the race that is scheduled for next Sunday. “We consciously spared Primoz Roglic today. He will be fresh on Sunday. I expect that we will have a strong team that can ride for Primoz and Tom. We then go for a good result.”
