Jumbo-Visma Development Team extends contract with three riders

Lars Boven, Rick Pluimers and Owen Geleijn are also part of the Jumbo-Visma Development Team next year. The three young riders recently extended their contract for one year. For the trio, it will be their third season in the Team Jumbo-Visma development team.

Boven has learned a lot in the past two years with his team. “We have had some nice races where I have been able to learn a lot. The coaching here is top-notch and I’m glad the team gives me confidence with this contract extension. I hope to continue the upward trend of my development in the coming years. I would like to build on that.”

Pluimers will start his final year as an U23 rider in 2022 and hopes to secure a professional contract. “With this team we are working every day to become better. Becoming a pro is of course a dream. I think 2022 can be a year in which I can dot the i’s and cross the t’s. Thanks to the races with our World Tour team, I notice that I am increasingly at my best in a strong field. I can handle the high level more and more and hopefully this development will continue. I keep improving myself and pushing my limits. That makes this extension a logical choice.”

Geleijn is also looking forward to another year in the yellow-black jersey. “I am happy with my contract extension. For me it is the best team to develop myself. I think I have made great strides in the past two years and I hope to continue that. I’m in the right place for that. I really feel at home here. In my opinion, the races together with the guys from the World Tour are great. I hope to ride many more races like that. That way we can gain experience and get a taste of the real thing.”

Head of Development Robbert de Groot is happy that these riders are staying on board longer. “Rick is a very good rider who keeps making steps forward. He is becoming a mature rider who is important for the team, but also improves himself and who is looking for a pro contract. Lars and Owen are going for their third year in the U23 category. They are both making progress. Owen is perhaps the most important captain in the training team. That role suits him better and better. I think he will be able to show himself. As a race captain he is a very important rider in our team and we want him to continue that. We are also very happy that Lars will stay longer. He has a strong individual time trial in his legs and he is an important link in team time trials. We hope that his talent will continue to bring him further in the coming year.”

Hidde van Veenendaal and Axel van der Tuuk will not be part of the Jumbo-Visma Development Team next year.
