Steven’s Bianchi: Italian precision on Italian roads

Steven Kruijswijk is on the hunt for a podium place in the general classification of the Giro d’Italia. In the mountain stages, the leader of Team Jumbo-Visma does not use a celeste Bianchi Oltre XR4, but a black variant.

Bianchi has developed a unique paint system that significantly reduces the molecular weight of the coating used for the Oltre XR4 – delivered in black color with the iconic celeste Bianchi logos. The black bike only has a transparent layer, instead of a colored layer and a transparent layer in the celeste variant.

Earlier this season, Kruijswijk and his teammates already used the black bike on a regular basis. The weight is the reason this black Bianchi is used in mountain stages. The black bike is eighty grams lighter compared to the original celeste colour, improving the power to weight ratio when climbing. Among other things, the fourth stage of the Tour de France and Liège-Bastogne-Liège were won this year on the black-coloured Oltre XR4.

Unlike the bikes of Jumbo-Visma Development Team, the World Tour team uses bikes with rim brakes. The bike is assembled with Shimano Dura-Ace parts. The wheels, which are also part of the Dura-Ace range, are fitted with twenty-six millimetre wide Vittoria Corsa tubes.

The handlebar is a FSA K-Force New-Ergo handlebar made of carbon, wrapped with celeste handlebar tape. To ride the bike during the Giro stages in a comfortable way, the Oltre XR4 from Kruijswijk is equipped with a Fizik Antares 0.0 saddle.
