Christophe Laporte secured the silver medal at the world championships in Australia. The Frenchman came back into the battle for silver and bronze in the closing stages of the race behind the untouchable Remco Evenepoel and did not let this opportunity go unused. A strong sprint took Laporte to silver, just ahead of teammate Wout van Aert who finished fourth. Pascal Eenkhoorn was on the attack for a long time, but fell just short of a place of honour. Marianne Vos finished 14th in the women's road race. The Team Jumbo-Visma rider won the sprint of the chasing group, while her compatriot Annemiek van Vleuten grabbed the world title.
Olav Kooij narrowly missed out on the medals at the U23 road race on Friday. The young sprinter competed for bronze in a rainy Wollongong, but had to settle for fifth at the finish. Michel Hessmann (11th) and Per Strand Hagenes (13th) finished just outside the top ten.
