Danny van Poppel has finished in front in the Tour de Pologne for the second consecutive day. In the second stage, the 26-year-old rider of Team Jumbo-Visma sprinted to fourth place.
The two riders in the breakaway of the day were caught in the last fifteen kilometres. Team Jumbo-Visma surrounded Van Poppel well and dropped him off in a good position for the last kilometre. In the subsequent chaotic sprint, Van Poppel could not prevent Luca Mezgec from taking the stage win.
“Actually, the scenario for this stage was the same as yesterday’s”, sports director Addy Engels said. “The plan was to put Danny in position for the sprint. Like yesterday, it was a lottery. He moved up a place compared to the result of yesterday’s stage, but it is especially good to see that Danny once again competed for the win. Both Danny and the rest of the team are feeling well.”
