Marianne Vos has sprinted to third place in the first edition of GP Oetingen. It is the first podium place of this season for the Dutch rider after her debut in Strade.
The formation led by racecoach Lieselot Decroix displayed a strong performance in Oetingen. Anna Henderson and Romy Kasper also were in the leading group of eighteen besides Vos. After ten laps on the local course and the cobblestones, it was Vos who managed to secure the second podium place of this season for Team Jumbo-Visma Women.
"Especially the positioning for the cobbled sections made it very difficult."
“When you sprint for the win, you are always disappointed when you don’t succeed”, Vos admitted. “At the same time, we rode a very good race with the team. It was a tough course and especially the positioning for the cobbled sections made it very difficult. When two riders escaped from the leading group, Anna and Romy did a lot of work for me. As a team, I think we can be satisfied with this result.”
Race coach Lieselot Decroix agrees with her leader’s reaction. “There was a need to position well for the cobbled sections and the climb. Mutual communication was important for this and the team handled it well. There were three of our riders in the breakaway towards the final. Unfortunately, two were just a little faster in the sprint. The fact that we are on the podium with the team for the second time this week is still a great result.”
