Kramer outdoes himself in first year: "It went better than expected"
Jesse Kramer has finished his first year as a rider for the Jumbo-Visma Developm...
Olav Kooij has finished his successful season in twelfth position at Paris-Tours. Along the way, Team Jumbo-Visma experienced multiple collisions and punctures, which caused the 20-year-old Dutchman to be boxed in during the sprint. As a result, he was unable to contend for the podium positions.
The long run-up to the gravel stretches and hills was anything but calm. Jos van Emden was involved in one of the many crashes. The yellow-and-black squad experienced several mechanical issues during the last stage, just as the peloton fully pursued the leaders. The leaders were eventually caught, but Team Jumbo-Visma could not score a top result.
"We had terrible luck."
"We had terrible luck”, sports director Arthur van Dongen said. "We lost four men, so we took responsibility to ride for our two leaders, Olav and Christophe Laporte. After a while, Christophe indicated that he didn't have the best legs. Then we went for the sprint with Olav, but he was forced to pause during his sprint up to four times. This is not the outcome we had hoped for. It’s mostly luck-related, but it's also because there weren't enough of our riders left in the final to make a difference."
