Team Jumbo-Visma hasn’t played a significant role in the third stage of the UAE Tour. After the non-start of our GC rider Laurens De Plus yesterday, the yellow and black formation couldn’t impress on the Jebel Hafeet climb. Koen Bouwman tried to climb along with the first group in the beginning of the climb, but had to keep riding his own pace when the GC guys accelerated.
Despite this, Team Jumbo-Visma heads to the next stages in the UAE Tour with confidence. After all, there are three more sprint opportunities for Dylan Groenewegen, starting tomorrow in the fourth stage to the Dubai City Walk.
“After Laurens hadn’t been able to take the start in yesterday’s stage, we had no great expectations for today”, sports director Grischa Niermann said. “Koen did his best and the team supported him well until the final climb. But we also have to be realistic. We never were in the race for a top ten result today. The most important thing is that everyone got through the stage well. There are three more sprint stages coming up in which we will fully go for a sprint with Dylan. The team is good and we are confident.”
