The battle for the national titles in photos
Last week was full of nationals championships. Relive the battle for the jerseys...
Team Jumbo-Visma hasn't been involved in the battle for the day's victory in the eleventh stage of the Giro d'Italia. On the very flat course between Santarcangelo di Romagna and Reggio Emilia, the sprinters went for the win. The yellow and black brigade crossed the finish line unscathed.
In a stage without any obstacles, two Italians formed the day's breakaway. The duo managed to get a five-minute lead, but got reeled in with ninety kilometers to go. The peloton seemed to be preparing for echelons but to no avail, despite frantic efforts.
After a brave attempt by a lonely escapee, a bunch sprint had to decide who would take the win. In the sprint, won by Alberto Dainese, Edoardo Affini crossed the line in 12th place. All other Team Jumbo-Visma riders crossed the finish line in the same time.
"Except for the first two hours, it was a high-speed stage”, Pascal Eenkhoorn said. "Due to possible echelons, there was stress in the peloton, but because most teams had the same interests, the peloton didn't break up. I didn't sprint because fast stages don't suit me as much as sprinting after difficult stages."
For tomorrow’s stage, Eenkhoorn sees more chances for the breakaway, as it contains several hills. "It's going to be tough to be in the breakaway, but that's the challenge here. I have the ambition for us to get a good result, but first, we will determine the battle plan as a team."
