Team Jumbo-Visma Women has finished the Ford RideLondon Classique in style. The Dutch squad won the team classification on the final stage and had two riders in the top ten overall, Teuntje Beekhuis and Noemi Rüegg. Anna Henderson finished seventh in the bunch sprint.
The final stage took place on the streets of London, where the riders had to complete eight local laps of 11.5 kilometres. Halfway through the race, three riders broke away. The trio opened up a one-and-a-half-minute lead but were caught ten kilometres from the finish.
A bunch sprint was inevitable, and the Jumbo-Visma riders tried to get in on the action. Henderson was well placed in the final kilometres, and the British rider, who finished fourth yesterday, sprinted to seventh place today. In the overall standings, Beekhuis and Rüegg maintained their top ten positions.
"It's an excellent result of the weekend they rode together"
"The intention was for them not to lose time to keep their top ten positions. They managed that, which is a great achievement", race coach Lieselot Decroix said. "We also won the team classification. That wasn't our primary goal, of course, but it's an excellent result of the weekend they rode together."
Decroix paid tribute to the team. "I think we were all very strong together. We rode well for three days, and today was a great day to end the weekend. Anna is not an absolute top sprinter, but the seventh place in a bunch sprint is an excellent result."
