For the fourth consecutive day, the Tour of Hungary has ended in a bunch sprint. On behalf of Team Jumbo-Visma, David Dekker finished in ninth place.
The day's breakaway was quickly formed. The escapees didn't get much space from the sprinter teams. With twenty kilometres to go, they were caught and the peloton prepared for a bunch sprint.
Sports director Robert Wagner was happy that Dekker could ride a final again. "David has come a long way. He needs to be able to ride finals again, also considering the upcoming races. It was a hilly stage today, with two more climbs in the final. We wanted to get David in a good position for the last roundabout, and that worked out well. However, we would have liked to have had one more rider there. Due to an unfortunate decision, David lost a few positions, but he still sprinted to ninth place. He felt good, although he indicated that he could do better."
Tomorrow the queen stage is on the programme, in which the classification will be decided. "We are here without a classification rider. We do have Loe van Belle from the Development Team. He can find out tomorrow where he stands. He can try to go with the best in the final climb. That way, he can make a move. We will have a tough race and hopefully we can finish it well."
