Van Dijke close to stage victory in Tour of Luxembourg
Tim van Dijke has finished third in the second stage of the Tour of Luxembourg. ...
Team Jumbo-Visma had mixed feelings about the queen stage of the Simac Ladies Tour. Riejanne Markus and Nienke Veenhoven dropped out of the race, but the Dutch team was able to score some good results with Anna Henderson and Karlijn Swinkels.
The most challenging stage of the Dutch WorldTour race featured up to 2,200 metres of climbing over a distance of around 130 kilometres. Halfway through the race, Markus and Veenhoven were forced to abandon the race, but Team Jumbo-Visma was undeterred.
Henderson and Swinkels were among the favourites on behalf of the yellow and black team. On the stage that leader Lotte Kopecky eventually won, Henderson finished fifth. Swinkels finished tenth. Both women remained at the top of the standings.
"Unfortunately, Riejanne was involved in a crash”, race director Carmen Small said. "In retrospect, it was unnecessary, but unfortunately, these things happen in racing. Luckily, she is making up for it now. Hats off to the rest of the ladies for coping with the loss of two of our riders. There are only a few ladies left, but we will do our best tomorrow to defend our good positions.”
