Hessmann second in German U23 road race championship

Michel Hessmann has finished second in the German U23 road race championship. After a sprint-a-deux, the rider of Jumbo-Visma Development Team had to put up with Kim Heiduk.

Hessmann was at the start together with teammate Maurice Ballerstedt. The two riders rode attentively throughout the race, after which it was Hessmann who ended up in the deciding breakaway.

“We ended up at the front with a group of twelve”, the number two said. “I tried to thin out the group a number of times. That worked out well, because I had very good legs. In the final I got away with Heiduk. I knew he had a strong sprint, but after a tough race you never know how such a sprint will turn out. Unfortunately I was not able to match his sprint, but I am happy with second place. It was a nice and fair sprint. That is why I can certainly live with this silver medal.”
