Fisher-Black prolongs New Zealand’s U23 time trial title

Fisher-Black is once again New Zealand’s national time trial champion U23. For the eighteen-year-old rider of the Jumbo-Visma Development Team it is the third national in his career.

The time trial over 44.2 kilometres was won by Fisher-Black with a lead of more than one minute. He also recorded the fastest time of the day. Among the elite, George Bennett seemed well on his way to victory but ultimately had to settle for second place. He finished just 0.7 seconds behind winner Aaron Gate.

“It went almost perfectly for me today”, Fisher-Black said. “It was the longest TT I have ever done in my life. It was a hard course with some hills and windy conditions. So I knew I had to have a good pacing and fuelling strategy so that I could keep enough energy in the legs for the final kilometres. It was a nice bonus to also take the fastest time of the day.”

The road race will be held this Sunday, where both riders will compete again for the national title.
