Team Jumbo-Visma Women is preparing for the second WorldTour race of the season. The women’s team will not start in the Italian classic with one absolute leader, but with three leaders: Marianne Vos, Riejanne Markus and Anouska Koster.
Vos, the only Dutch rider on the Trofeo Binda list of honour and winner of the last edition, is looking forward to making it a great race with the team. “I always like to ride this race. It’s a bit of an oddity among the spring classics in the Low Countries, but that’s why it’s so good. It’s a race for climbers, but also for fast finishers at the finish line in Cittiglio. So there are different scenarios possible for the team. The challenge is to find out how we can make the most of it.”
In addition to Vos and Koster, Markus is also given a free role: “I’m very much looking forward to our second race in Italy. Binda is a tough race with a number of local laps in the final with some climbs. I hope to attack and if it turns out to be a sprint with a group, I want to position Marianne as well as possible.”
“We mainly want to attack”, race coach Lieselot Decroix confirmed. “The local laps make it a tough race anyway, but we are not going to wait and see. In the end we hope to go into the final with as many riders as possible so we can draw different cards there. Marianne has of course already won the race several times, so also now she can be close.”
Besides the three leading women, the line-up consists of Julie Van de Velde, Teuntje Beekhuis and Nancy van der Burg.
