Verbij suffers broken left collarbone in bike crash

Kai Verbij has suffered a broken left collarbone in a bike crash in Friesland on Friday morning. The 25-year-old sprinter of Team Jumbo-Visma will have surgery later today.

Verbij, who joined the team earlier this month, was riding his bike along with teammates Dai Dai N’tab and Hein Otterspeer, when the three speed skaters went over a bump in the road. Verbij and Otterspeer fell, while N’tab was let off with a scare.

Medical examination at the hospital in Heerenveen confirmed that Verbij broke his left collarbone. Otterspeer suffered multiple bruises in the accident. It’s not clear how long the rehab of both speed skaters will take.
