Bosker signs two-year deal with Team Jumbo-Visma

Marcel Bosker has agreed to terms on a two-year deal with Team Jumbo-Visma, so the 23-year-old speed skater will be part of the team until at least the Winter Olympics of Beijing 2022.

Bosker is a two-time world champion and current world record holder in the men’s Team Pursuit. In 2019 (Inzell, Germany) and 2020 (Salt Lake City, United States) he seized gold along with Sven Kramer and Douwe de Vries. Last season he also managed to win gold with Kramer and Patrick Roest at the European Championships at Thialf, Heerenveen.

In 2018, Bosker took a bronze medal at the World Allround Championships at the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam, after becoming Dutch allround champion for the first time in his career earlier that season.

"I am happy to sign with the best speed skating team in the world", Bosker said. "I really wanted to be part of this team. I am looking forward to train alongside Sven, Patrick and the other athletes. I don’t see a better outfit in this sport than this one. I am sure I will be able to improve a lot in this team."

"As a professional athlete you always want to be the best. When I look at the current level of Patrick and Sven, I realize I still need to improve. They skate five, six seconds faster than me in the 5,000-meter races. I know it is going to be tough, but I will do everything I can to narrow the gap with them. In my opinion we can push each other to a higher level."

Team Pursuit

With Bosker signing at Team Jumbo-Visma, the Team Pursuit lineup of the last European Championships will be on the same team. "I think it is a good thing. With Sven, Patrick and myself we already have a great team. By training with each other every single day, our level can only get better."

Coach Orie is pleased with the signing of Bosker at Team Jumbo-Visma. "Marcel is a very good speed skater, who has already accomplished some great things. I think he is a great fit for our team. I am sure Marcel can still improve a lot. In my opinion he has the potential to reach the level of Sven and Patrick."

First signing

Bosker is Team Jumbo-Visma’s first signing this season, while De Vries and Jan Smeekens announced their retirement last month. Last week Kramer signed a new contract that will keep him tied to the team for the next two seasons.
