Tough virtual edition of Tour of Flanders for Van Aert and Teunissen
The Tour of Flanders: Lockdown Edition turned out to be a true wear and tear. On...
Speed skating team Team Jumbo-Visma and Unox will enter into a sponsorship agreement next season. Together they will set up a new marathon skating team. The team will go on the ice under the flag of Team Jumbo-Visma, with Unox as its primary partner. It will participate in all marathon races on natural and artificial ice. Unox, also the main sponsor of Stichting Natuurijs Klassiekers and active in marathon skating for decades, is thus more firmly committed to this primeval Dutch sport which, just like the brand itself, is deeply rooted in Dutch culture.
The skating team is under the sportive leadership of coach Jac Orie of Team Jumbo-Visma. The group competes in the highest division of marathon skating. This makes the team an addition to the Jumbo-Visma speed skating team.
The team will participate in the NK Marathon, the Marathon Cup-competitions on Dutch artificial ice rinks, Grand Prix-competitions on foreign natural ice and competitions on Dutch natural ice when it freezes hard enough.
"The first year will be a learning year for us as a newcomer, in which we want to show ourselves in the various competitions and hopefully compete a number of times for the podium. In the coming years we want to continue to grow as a team, so that we will be one of the best marathon teams in the Netherlands", says Jac Orie, coach of Team Jumbo-Visma.
"Skating is practically Dutch heritage and brings a lot of people together every year. As Unox we would like to warm the stomachs and hearts of all Dutch people and we see an important role for this primeval Dutch sport. For example, bringing a neighbourhood together on a frozen canal or, hopefully someday, enjoying the Eleven cities tour together with a warm bowl of pea soup. We are already fans", says Debora van der Zee, Vice-President Foods Benelux at Unilever.
Unox and Team Jumbo-Visma are going to work hard this year to keep the Dutch skating culture alive. The group of Dutch people who grew up with the harsh winters of the past in which everyone skated is unfortunately getting smaller and smaller. Unox is committed to the preservation of the beautiful skating culture and has the mission that every child will master the skating movement before the age of twelve.
Richard Plugge, general director of Team Jumbo-Visma: "Skating is one of the things the Dutch people excel at. We can all be proud of that. Together with Unox, our talents will dedicate themselves in the coming period to let the young generations, together, enjoy this beautiful sport."
To celebrate the collaboration, from 29 January onwards you will receive the iconic Unox hat in all Jumbo branches when you purchase two Unox smoked sausages or 3 bags of soup. The must have of the Year.
