Preview Brugge-De Panne, E3 BinckBank Classic and Gent-Wevelgem

In Flanders, this week the build up towards the Tour of Flanders begins with three beautiful classics: Brugge-De Panne, E3 BinckBank Classic and Gent-Wevelgem. Sport director on duty is Grischa Niermann. He reflects on this week’s races:

“In Brugge-De Panne there is a good chance of a bunch sprint. We have to be alert in the Kemmelberg zone and we have to keep a close eye on the wind. Our plan is to put Dylan in position for a sprint. If there will not be a bunch sprint, we will have other good options in Danny van Poppel and other riders.

“In the E3 BinckBank Classic we are once again counting on our young but strong collective. If you have to pick one name, you think of Wout van Aert. He recently showed in Strade Bianche and Milan-Sanremo that he is every bit as good as other top riders. We hope to get into the final with several riders and to be able to race as a real unity.

“Gent-Wevelgem is a race that can bring about several scenarios because of the double ascent of the Kemmelberg and the five kilometres of gravel roads, the Plugstreets. Dylan will be back in our selection and he will be our man when the race ends in a sprint with a large group. However, we will start with many riders in a free role and we want to race attentively. Last year, Danny proved that this race suits him well, but that goes for several riders in our team.”
