Team Jumbo-Visma has won the Hammer Series in Stavanger. The team of sports director Frans Maassen was the first team to start in the Hammer Chase and was able to hold the lead. The teams started the chase according to the positions in the overall standings after the Hammer Climb and the Hammer sprint.
For Team Jumbo-Visma it is the twenty-third victory of the season.
The team comprised Dylan Groenewegen, Jonas Vingegaard, Pascal Eenkhoorn, Amund Grondahl Jansen and Mike Teunissen. They started with a thirty seconds lead on Team Sunweb. Team Jumbo-Visma consolidated the lead without any problems and had kept a margin of seventeen seconds at the finish.
“It is the first time that we have won a race from the Hammer Series. That is really great”, Amund Jansen said. “For us it all is a new but fun experience. Everyone gave 100 percent and that has resulted in this victory. It is also nice to win in Norway for our Norwegian sponsor Visma. This victory is also for them.”
Dylan Groenewegen concurred with his Norwegian teammate. “Today was a lot of fun. It was a tough Hammer Chase, but I’m glad we were able to finish it off. Yesterday didn’t go as expected for me, but this makes up for it. It is also a good preparation for the Tour.”
Sports director Frans Maassen was proud of his team. “This is really great. I am very proud of the boys. I had hoped for this, but did not really count on it too much. We did not bring our best time trialists. Everyone gave themselves completely in the past three days and that is really good to see. They fought for every metre. The spirit was really good.”
After the Hammer Series in Stavanger, Team Jumbo-Visma will head to next week’s Hammer Series in Limburg. It will start as the leader. The final will be held in Hong Kong in October.
