Team Jumbo-Visma unable to prevent a bunch sprint in Gooikse Pijl

Team Jumbo-Visma was unable to take a result in the Gooikse Pijl. The riders of sports director Frans Maassen put in strong efforts to prevent a bunch sprint, but were unsuccessful. The sprint was won by the German Pascal Ackermann.

Tom Leezer was in the early breakaway of fourteen riders, which couldn’t got clear. The breakaway was unable to keep its advantage. With 100 kilometres to go, the peloton was back together, when new attacks came up. A Pascal Eenkhoorn put in a strong counterattack, but he could not got away. Danny van Poppel felt better than yesterday but didn't get mixed in the bunch spirt. Bora-Hansgrohe controlled the race and were successful in winning the race.

Sports director Frans Maassen had higher expectations before. "The plan was to attack. We did it, but I was hoping for more. The main goal was to prevent a big bunch sprint. Unfortunately the plan failed. We did very good jobs in the Kampioenschap van Vlaanderen and the Primus Classic; almost winning the race. Today was different and more difficult. The World Championship riders have had a good preparation, but we came to win a race this weekend.”
