Team Jumbo-Visma has come through the first stage of the Gree-Tour of Guangxi well. In the Chinese coastal town of Beihai, Timo Roosen sprinted to thirteenth place.
The stage was entertained by an early breakaway of three riders. After they had been reeled in at about thirty kilometres from the finish, the peloton started to attack again. Team Jumbo-Visma did not interfere during these attacks.
Fernando Gavaria won the stage, the German Pascal Ackermann finished second. A positive result for Team Jumbo-Visma and Dylan Groenewegen. Chances are increasing that Groenewegen will be the most victorious rider of the season. The Dutchman finished his season with fifteen victories, the Bora-Hansgrohe rider is currently at eleven.
Sports director Addy Engels deemed the stage not really exciting. “Three riders immediately got away, then the control of the sprinter teams was there. Of course we didn’t bring a real sprinter to China. Timo tried to position himself well, but did not finish in the top ten. We came through the stage well. We are looking forward to the coming days.”
