Roosen sprints to another top five spot in Canada

Timo Roosen sprinted to fifth in Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal overnight. In the last 500 metres uphill, the Team LottoNL-Jumbo cyclist just missed out on the podium. Two days prior in the GP Quebec, he was closer but had to settle for fourth.

“The course was harder than the last few years," Roosen said. “I didn’t expect to succeed in such a good result, so this was the best for me.”

The hilly WorldTour race in Canada covered 16 circuits of 12.5 kilometres.

“I nearly stayed in the first group on the long climb. I dropped off, but came back to the first group in the last lap. In the final kilometre, Paul Martens placed me perfectly so I could start my sprint in the right position," Roosen explained. “I didn’t have the same speed as the first four, but then nobody passed me so I belong at this spot."
