Team Jumbo-Visma was unable to achieve a result in the first stage of the Deutschland Tour. The stage ended in a mass sprint in the streets of Halberstadt. Timo Roosen crossed the finish line in seventeenth place.
There were lots of attacks in the final. Team Jumbo-Visma was focussed in the front and reacted to a few attacks, but nobody could get away.
"The sprinters’ teams controlled the race today," sports director Merijn Zeeman said. “We wanted to sprint with Timo. We did everything we could to put him in the right position, but in the final it did not turn out well. Unfortunately, this meant he was unable to compete for the first places.”
Zeeman continues: “We will do everything we can to prevent sprints. The race still offers some possibilities, but this is primarily a stage race where the sprinters can take their chance."
