Douwe de Vries has started the new speed skating season on a high note. The 37-year-old skater from Team Jumbo-Visma finished second in the men's 3,000 meters in Inzell. He set a time of 3:40.23. De Vries had never been faster on a European track.
At the Max Aicher Arena De Vries faced his fellow countryman Bob de Vries, who set a time of 3:48.78. The Norwegian skater Sverre Lunde Pedersen ended up in first place, finishing just ahead of De Vries with a time of 3:39.97. De Vries skated his personal best at 3,0000 meters in Calgary on March 6th of 2013: 3:49.46.
"I am very happy with this result", said De Vries afterwards. "For me, it's a personal best on a European track, so I have to be satisfied. My race went well. Yesterday, during the race preparation, I skated a little better, but a race is always different than a practice. Today, I started off well and kept my race flat."
