Bouwman tries again in last stage Tour de Suisse

Koen Bouwman has tried to also go for the stage win in the last stage of the Tour de Suisse. The Dutchman attempted - together with a few other escapees - to reach leader Hugh Carthy, but Carthy was too strong and won.

The 101.5 kilometres long stages went over three tough mountains. From the start, it went uphill and there were a lot of attacks.

“It was a hard stage”, Bouwman said. “Antwan and I went for the mountain jersey, but a few men were stronger. There was nothing to do about Carthy today, so then that’s it."

“It went really fast from the start”, sports director Sierk Jan de Haan added. “We weren’t the only team who wanted to go for mountain points and the stage win. With the help of Antwan, Koen reached the first chasing group. He was in a good position. During the first two climbs he rode really strongly, but the pace in the group with favourites was very high. That’s why he was caught on the penultimate climb. During the last climb he rode at his own pace.”
